Malta’s old & new Capital city
Malta has had two capital cities in its lifetime, during this tour you will have the opportunity to experience and compare both. The tour will start in Valletta, the ‘new’ and current capital city. The first stop will be the Upper Barracca Gardens, where one can enjoy an aerial view of the Grand Harbour, The Three Cities, Fort St. Angelo and so on. A number of these sites have been used for film productions such as Game of Thrones, Midnight Express, Gladiator, and Troy.
The tour continues with a visit to St. John’s Co–Cathedral. Here we get to see the different Chapels, the Main Altar, and the Oratory, which houses two paintings created by renowned artist Caravaggio. Upon exiting the Co-Cathedral we will take a walk through the most important buildings that the city has to offer, followed by a coffee or lunch break in the main square.
You may wish to visit another site in Valletta, you can choose amongst; The Grand Master's Palace, Manoel Theatre, or Casa Rocca Piccola. Exiting through the City Gate, passing by the Triton Fountain we bid farewell to Valletta, and make our way to Mdina – Malta’s former capital city.
Perched on the top of a hill, Mdina is a mediaeval town made up of narrow winding streets. We will explore this maze, unraveling its unique charm.
We will walk passing the city’s Cathedral reaching the Bastion's Wall, you can enjoy an aerial view of the entire Island. You then have the choice to either visit the Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum, or have some free time for a wander, tea, coffee or cake!
