Valletta & the 3 Cities
A city founded in 1566 by the Knights of Malta, Valletta is recognized as a World Heritage Site, and the European Capital of Culture for 2018. The tour starts at the city’s entrance by the Triton Fountain. We will past the New City Gate and Parliament House, along with a selection of other important buildings before entering St. John's Co–Cathedral.
In the Cathedral we will see the Chapels, Main Altar and the Oratory, which homes two paintings done by renowned artist Caravaggio. We then go on to visit the Manoel Theatre, a small yet fine building.
After stopping for a well deserved coffee or lunch break we will make our way to the Upper Barracca Gardens to enjoy an aerial view of the Grand Harbour. The garden’s lift will journey us down where we will catch a gondola boat ride bringing us to the 1st of The Three Citties; Birgu – Vittoriosa.
Birgu is the oldest city down in the Harbour and luckly still holds a lot of unspoilt charm and beauty. After a historical filled walk we arrive at the 2nd inlet to enjoy another great view of the Harbour this time with Valletta as a backdrop. The focus of the afternoon is Birgu, although we will still visit Senglea – Isla.
The tour finishes deep in the inlet, between The Three Cities with a lovely promenade that has a connecting bridge to the surrounding buildings. This tour offers a range of Harbour views, each one giving a unique perspective of the latter
